IDENTIFIED: Bicyclist dead after being hit by car in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man who was killed after being hit by a car while riding his bike in Downtown Fresno on Sunday has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Monday.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the bicyclist on Monday as 54-year-old Gabriel Ortega of Fresno.

Police say they responded to Stanislaus Street and Van Ness Avenue on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. after receiving multiple calls regarding a bicyclist who was hit by a car.

Upon arrival, responding officers reported Ortega was on the ground in the roadway suffering serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives say the involved motorist remained on the scene and attempted to aid Ortega as officers were responding.

Investigators say drugs and or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
