IDENTIFIED: 2 women dead after Fresno County solo crash

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The two women who died following a solo-vehicle crash in Fresno County have been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday.

CHP says they responded to a solo vehicle collision in the area of Butler and Clovis Avenues in Fresno County around 5:30 p.m., involving two older women who sustained fatal injuries.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the women as 66-year-old Yia Vang of Fresno and 81-year-old Mai Yang Vang of Fresno. They were relatives.

Investigators say a white SUV was traveling northbound on Clovis Avenue when, for reasons yet to be determined, it moved to the right portion of the northbound lane and began to pass other vehicle traffic. The vehicle then struck a metal post, which caused it to veer into a cinder block wall.

As a result of the impact on the wall, CHP says both the driver and right-front passenger sustained critical injuries. The passenger, Mai Yang Vang, was pronounced deceased on scene and the driver, Yia Vang, was transported to CRMC but despite lifesaving efforts, she was also pronounced deceased.

This is an ongoing investigation. Officers say it does not appear that alcohol and or drugs were a factor in this crash.
