I'd rather they didn't come: Paris mayor on Russians competing in 2024 Olympics

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has spoken out against athletes from Russia taking part in the 2024 Olympics, which are to be held in France.

Details: "I prefer that they don't come. We cannot act as if [Russia's invasion of Ukraine] did not exist. We could not act as if [Vladimir)] Putin was not a dictator who today threatens the whole of Europe," the mayor said.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in the Olympic Games, but only as neutrals.

Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee, together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Taekwondo Federation, recently appealed to the IOC to suspend Russians who support the war.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken out about the possible admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
