'Hypothetical' confession from O.J Simpson will give you real chills

O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession? shared a 2006 interview between O.J. Simpson and his publisher, Judith Regan. In it, Simpson detailed how he and an accomplice named Charlie hypothetically murdered Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman in 1994.

Simpson had written a book titled If I Did It; this interview was part of that book deal, so it was conducted under a hypothetical pretense. The only problem was it didn’t seem very hypothetical.

It largely seemed as if Simpson was recounting something he genuinely remembered taking part in. Though he did obfuscate a little in discussing Charlie.

Simpson said, “I think Charlie had followed [Goldman] in, and he brought the knife. As things got heated, I just remember Nicole fell and hurt herself, and [Goldman] kind of got into a karate thing, and I said, ‘Well, do you think you can kick my ass?’ And I remember I grabbed the knife, I do remember that portion, taking the knife from Charlie. And to be honest, after that I don’t remember what happened after that except that I’m standing there and there’s all kind of stuff around.”

Christopher Darden, who was one of the prosecutors in the case, watched the interview with sadness and anger. Darden said, “I think he’s confessed to murder. … I don’t think that there is any question of his involvement in that he is the person who is wielding the knife. He may try to describe it as a hypothetical, but of course it becomes ‘I.’ ‘I did this’; ‘I felt this’; ‘I saw this.’ This notion of Charlie? I think Charlie is O.J. This is no hypothetical. This is reality.”
