Hwy 24 work between Falcon and Peyton begins June 3

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Road work is set to begin in early June on Highway 24 between Falcon and Peyton, with traffic impacts including nighttime lane closures and reduced speed limits.

The resurfacing work will take place between Garrett Road to Smith Ranch Road, and will primarily consist of resurfacing, updating the guardrail, striping, minor sign replacement, removing outdated wooden bridge rail at two structures, replacing them with new steel bridge rail and guardrail, and adding centerline and edge line rumble strips.

Work will be done in both the north- and southbound lanes for a 13-mile stretch of US 24.

Traffic Impacts

  • Nighttime work hours will be Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for work between Garrett Road and Judge Orr Road

  • Nighttime work hours will be Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for work between Judge Orr Road and Peyton Highway

  • For nighttime operations, traffic will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction, throughout the duration of the project

  • Lane closures, guided by flaggers, will have up to 15-minute delays

  • The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph through the work zone

  • The project is expected to last until the end of September

Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes, and if you must travel in the area, watch for crews and follow posted speed limits.
