Hutto ISD superintendent resigns

HUTTO, Texas (KXAN) — The Hutto Independent School District accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Raúl Peña Thursday. His resignation comes less than a year after he stepped into the role.

The ISD Board of Trustees sent a letter to staff Thursday notifying them of the change and said it named Dr. Cara Malone as the Acting Superintendent. Peña served in the position for seven months.

Malone joined Hutto ISD in the Fall of 2022 as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. According to the board’s letter, she has “championed revolutionary methods of creating career pathways for future teachers and earned statewide attention for her Teacher Apprenticeship Program.”

“We have a great leadership team in place that will continue the positive momentum as we make decisions in the best interest of the district and for students, while staying focused on our strategic plan and goals,” the board said in the letter. “The Board of Trustees, Dr. Malone and the Hutto ISD Executive Leadership Team remain united and steadfast in our commitment to serving Hippo Nation.”

It also said it would keep staff informed as it works to name the district’s next superintendent.
