The storm hit Florida Keys on Sunday morning, bringing with it 130mph winds, a surge in sea level and tornados.

Irma made landfall just after 9 am at Cudjoe Key, about 20 miles outside Key West. During the afternoon, it rounded Florida's southwestern corner and hugged the coast closely as it pushed toward Naples, Sanibel, Fort Myers and, beyond that, Sarasota, at 14 mph.

Irma was expected to reach the heavily populated Tampa-St. Petersburg area by early Monday, though in a much-weakened state.

Millions were evacuated while tens of thousands took shelter after a state of emergency was called.

Florida governor Rick Scott called on anyone still in at-risk areas to follow evacuation orders, saying: "This is clearly a life-threatening situation."

"If you have been ordered to evacuate you need to leave now. This is your last chance to make a good decision," he said on Saturday night.

"Evacuation procedures are in place across the state, more than 6.5 million Floridians have been ordered to evacuate. Do not put yourself or your family's life at risk."

The hurricane has left some islands mostly uninhabitable and already caused at least 25 deaths. And worse news is that another deadly storm, Hurricane Jose, is sweeping in behind with Katia in the gulf of Mexico.

The other two can be seen on the tracker - the largest storm is Irma.
