Huntsville Utilities says power mostly restored after outage

MADISON COUNTY, Ala (WHNT) — Huntsville Utilities says crews have restored power to most customers after a power outage affecting Northern Madison County and Northwest Huntsville.

The utility company originally said electric operations crews responded to an outage impacting customers from the Tennessee State Line south to Highway 20 and from Wall Triana Highway east to Highway 231/431.

The company said as of 11:03 p.m. Tuesday that power had been restored to all but 5,600 customers. Huntsville Utilities said those customers are located in the area from the Tennessee State Line south to Sparkman Drive and from Jeff Road east to Memorial Parkway

According to the utility company, a snake got into a primary substation that distributes power to other substations. It made contact with electrical equipment that caused the main feeder breaker to open.

Huntsville Utilities said crews are working to restore power to the remainder of the outage as quickly as possible.
