Huntsville Music Office says Huntsville music festival coming sooner than expected

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Music Office has announced that the music festival the city had previously announced for John Hunt Park is now coming a bit early.

The Huntsville City Council approved an agreement with C3 Presents LLC to bring a music festival to John Hunt Park in October of 2023. At the time, the city said the festival would likely be coming in 2025, but during a Huntsville Music Office event Tuesday, it was announced the festival is now planned for September of 2024.

Back in October, Mayor Tommy Battle said the festival would be a “quality-of-life” improvement for the city while also highlighting the potential national and international appeal of the event. The mayor called the event a win-win on Tuesday.

“This a win-win for Huntsville as well as the region,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to work with a world-class festival producer to bring a world-class event to a world-class park. We can’t wait to see the lineup.”

Huntsville Music Officer Matt Mandrella said he is especially excited by the possibility of seeing well-known artists of a variety of genres come to Huntsville for the festival.

“C3’s success in establishing festivals like Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival speaks for itself,” Mandrella said. “This event is going to take our music city aspirations to the next level and continue establishing Huntsville as a destination for live music fans.”

C3 Presents Festival Director Ted Heinig said he feels Huntsville is a unique opportunity for the company.

“Never before have we been recruited by a city to establish a festival,” he said. “We are excited about coming to Huntsville and bringing the music with us.”

The city said in October that the festival could be as early as the weekend of Sept. 28-29, 2024. The exact date was not announced during Tuesday’s event but it was confirmed it would be in September of 2024.

The city said C3 Present will announce the acts for the festival at a later date. Officials said those announcements could be as early as this spring. The event is expected to feature 20-25 acts across the entire weekend.

The name of the event, lineups and ticket information will be released in April.
