Huntsville man convicted on home repair fraud charges

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A Huntsville man was convicted in Morgan County on Wednesday for home repair fraud charges.

According to court records, a Morgan County jury found 63-year-old Johnny Ray Jordan guilty of multiple counts of home repair fraud and second-degree possession of a forged instrument.

Those charges stemmed from reports made by several Decatur-area residents in April and May 2022. Those residents had contacted police about home repair fraud at the time, in fear they were being scammed.

Jordan was arrested and charged in connection to those reports in June 2022.

Just weeks later, he was arrested again and charged with another count of home repair fraud after a victim reported Jordan took more than $43,000 from her for repair work that was never done. The initial complaint about that fraud came in October 2021.

An indictment shows that Jordan told two different people he would finish repairs on his home that he never completed. It also says that Jordan drew up contracts with the intent to defraud his customers.

During their investigation back in 2022, Decatur Police said it found Jordan was not a licensed contractor in the state of Alabama.

Jordan is still being held at the Morgan County Jail awaiting a sentencing hearing in July. However, he still has other cases still pending for home fraud and theft of property.
