Huntsville Botanical Garden receives $1.1 million gift from couple’s estate

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Botanical Garden received a charitable gift from a local couple’s estate, the nonprofit announced Wednesday.

Sue and Roy Nichols left the garden $1.1 million in their estate which garden officials say will help to continue ongoing initiatives.

Educator Honor Roll: Cascia Weldy, Lindsay Lane Chrisitan Academy

Garden officials said the Nichols family’s connection with the garden spanned decades, beginning with Roy’s involvement as Chairman of the Board of Directors, as well as Chairman of the Foundation Board.

Vice President of Institutional Advancement Annette Alexander said the Nichols’ legacy will live on at the garden through this gift.

“We are so grateful and honored to receive such a generous contribution from a couple who truly loved the Garden and its role in our community,” Alexander said. “Although they will be missed at the Garden, Roy and Sue live on in a number of ways as this donation will positively impact the Garden for years to come.”
