Hungry for corned beef, cabbage for St. Patrick's Day? Greenville, Spartanburg spots to try.

In honor of the life of St. Patrick, the Irish holiday known as St. Patrick's Day takes place on March 17 as a day of celebration with parades, specialty foods, green beer and clothing.

In Greenville, a free St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival will take place at NOMA Square on Saturday, March 16, as the two-part observance begins with a parade at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and a festival that lasts from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

While the remainder of St. Patrick's Day festivities are filled with food and social activities, a popular dish to eat for the holiday is corned beef and cabbage. The Americanized tradition of St. Patrick's Day saw early 20th-century New Yorkers substituting corned beef for Irish bacon to save money, while cabbage has remained part of the St. Patrick's Day tradition since the early 1900s, according to History.com.

Here are some restaurants in the Upstate where you can find your favorite Irish dish for St. Patrick's Day:

Connor Flynn's Public House

Expect a happening sidewalk celebration for St. Patrick's Day at Connor Flynn's as corned beef and cabbage samples will be available outdoors, to encourage guests to step inside and order from their regular menu on the inside.

Connor Flynn's best dish comes in true Irish form as their slow-roasted corned beef and braised cabbage come with baby bakers (finger-length potatoes) and carrots, topped with mustard-grained parsley sauce. The Reuben sandwich or Irish nachos are also a great alternative to eat somewhat traditional at this Greenville favorite pub.

Delaney's Irish Pub

Delaney's Irish nachos are a concoction of corned beef, beer cheese, pickled red onion and sidewinder potatoes, a good reason they have become a popular stop for many South Carolina Restaurant Weeks.

Their Shepherd's Pie and Reuben Sandwich on toasted rye are also great alternatives for St. Patrick's Day, yet the star of their menu is the corned beef brisket and seasoned cabbage.

The Irish Pub

The Irish Pub is an excellent source of traditional corned beef on rye and beans as a side dish.

A smaller bar, but with great outdoor and indoor seating makes this St. Patrick's Day destination an intimate space to see The Deadly Creek Dogs and TC Costello playing on Saturday, and Dead-End Street performing on the holiday.

Kilpatrick's Public House

The Main Street Irish-style pub has been part of many St. Patrick's Day bar crawls and 2024 is expected to be the same. While fish fry and wings are a staple in their space, a perfect way to celebrate is with their Shepherd's Pie or Irish egg rolls.

On the traditional side, Kilpatrick's corned beef and cabbage is a popular choice and is also known as the chef's special.

Iron Hill Brewery

Iron Hill is a non-traditional Irish restaurant and brewery that will partake in the holiday with corned beef and cabbage with Vienna Red Lager-braised red cabbage, parsley potatoes and baby carrots with "Philly Phavorite" IPA mustard sauce.

Additional St. Patrick's Day menu items include potato leek soup, potato croquettes with corned beef, cabbage, white cheddar & horseradish cream and also Shepherd's pie with ground beef and lamb, mushrooms, peas and cheesy mashed potatoes.
