Hundreds of Tops workers vote to authorize strike

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — With three agreements set to expire May 31, Tops employees represented by Teamsters Local 264 have voted to authorize a strike.

The vote took place at the group’s union hall on Thursday, resulting in overwhelming approval. Here are the specific results:

  • Super distribution center (301-1)

  • Frozen distribution center (46-2)

  • Maintenance (17-0)

The collective bargaining agreements currently in place cover approximately 550 Tops employees in maintenance, sanitation, warehouse and transportation.

“We are currently in negotiations today and have four more sessions scheduled before the expiration of the CBAs,” Teamsters Local 264 President Brian Dickman said. “We continue to bargain in good faith with the hopes of reaching an agreement.”

Tops says it is optimistic that an agreement will be reached soon.
