Hundreds lined up ahead of Super Bowl at Mr. D’s Donut Shop in Shawnee

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This Super Bowl Sunday, hundreds of Chiefs fans lined up early for their pre-game carb load at Mr. D’s Donuts in Shawnee.

The donut shop made history on Sunday for the most donuts made and pre-orders they’ve ever sold. Employees worked day and night to make that happen and the line of customers was out the door all morning long.

The popular donut shop made special Chiefs pastries and even some 49ers smores donuts. The marshmallow Niners logo was designed to be set on fire.

The D’s Donut Crew is a group of retired Chiefs fans who show up at the Shawnee shop almost every day to eat donuts and jaw about the games.

None of them used to know a single Taylor Swift song, but now, a couple of them say they have become Swifties.

“I had a young lady come to the front door yesterday selling bracelets,” recently converted Swiftie, Hal Miller said. “I paid her $5 and found out it’s a swiftie bracelet. And she was so happy and now I’m a happy Swiftie guy. It says Folklore. That’s one of her albums.”

Miller and a few of the other people in the group of retirees say they’ve recently listened to her music just to see what all the hubbub is about, and kind of like some of it.
