Hundreds of Lawyers March in Hong Kong Demanding End to 'Political Persecution'

Lawyers and other members of the Hong Kong legal profession staged a demonstration against what they called “political persecution” on August 7, which saw them gather outside the Court of Final Appeal and march silently to the Department of Justice.

Outside the Department of Justice, Hong Kong Legislative Council member Dennis Kwok said that members of the department had “issued an open statement, telling us that they are concerned that political persecution is now a reality in Hong Kong.”

Kwok also said that the lawyers were demanding a meeting with the justice secretary and the director of public prosecutions to find out “what is going on with prosecution decisions in the DoJ.” Credit: Ryan Ho Kilpatrick via Storyful
