Hundreds of birds gather at San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge

Hundreds of birds made a New Year’s Day stop at the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge. KCRA 3 spotted a few types of geese in the fields, among other varieties of birds. The four-mile Pelican Nature Trail is open to visitors from dawn to dusk. The Wildlife Observation Area on Beckwith Road is also open. “This is the first time this year, but yea, we've come pretty regular just to look at them,” said bird watcher Delbert Weldy. “Usually don't see this many or up close. They're usually out a little further or in the water,” he added.
