AEP restores power after widespread reigonal outage

UPDATE 2/29 7:33 P.M. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)– AEP has cleared the widespread power outage throughout the majority of the region.

Although most outages have been cleared, AEP reports 143 customers in Roanoke County are without power.

UPDATE: 10:35 A.M. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — AEP is still working to restore services for more than 1,600 customers in the region.

The majority of outages remain in Roanoke City and Bland County. According to the AEP outage map, 927 customers in Roanoke and 758 customers in Bland County are in the dark.

The following areas are still without power:

  • Amherst- 496

  • Bedford- 234

  • Roanoke County- 177

  • Franklin – 180

  • Roanoke County – 156

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Appalachian Power company (AEP) is working to restore power to hundreds of customers on Thursday morning.

According to the AEP outage map, over 1,200 customers are in the dark on Feb. 29 after gusty winds and rain on Wednesday. Currently, the majority of outages are in Roanoke City and Bland County.

Approximately 891 customers in Roanoke and 756 customers in Bland County are without power. Services have also been interrupted in the following areas:

  • Amherst- 495

  • Bedford- 253

  • Botetourt- 189

  • Roanoke County- 177

  • Franklin – 189

AEP encourages customers who see a downed line to report it and avoid the area. Outages can be reported by calling 800-956-4237 or entering a report online.
