Humpback Whale Swims Under Monterey Whale-Watching Boat in 'Rare' Encounter
A humpback whale approached a group of passengers during a whale-watching boat trip in Monterey, California.
Video shared on social media by Discovery Whale Watch shows the “friendly” humpback whale named “Buddy” circling their boat in mid-August.
According to Discovery Whale Watch, the whale surfaced near passengers, spouted water, and swam beneath the boat. They also said the boat was turned off to avoid disturbing the whale, and the whale approached them on its own terms.
In their social media description of the encounter, they noted, “Humpback whales can get curious with boats. It’s RARE, and it feels like you won the lottery.”
