Hump Day: 10 Camel Photos that Will Send You to the Sahara

By Meagen Collins and Tom Williams / Travel Freedom Podcast

I remember how excited I was. It was just this past March and we had  confirmed our two-day camel trek to the Sahara desert while we were in Morocco. What a massive bucket list item to check off your list, right? Let’s just say…yes and no.

Was it an amazing, incredible, life-changing experience? Yes. A thousand times yes! Did we realize at the time how incredibly uncomfortable, painful and all around grumpy pains in the butt camels are? No, we had no idea. Lesson learned — the hard way.

We had teamed up with a local tour company for our journey, and upon meeting the owner, he warned us that people who book the two-night camel tour usually come home early. We were shocked. How could anyone quit and come back early from the Sahara Desert? Are they mad???

Nope. It just turns out that:

1. It’s pretty freakin’ hot out there during the day (it is a desert after all).

2. The serious amounts of bum ouchies you will endure on a camel ride are enough for anyone to quit half way through and say, “That’s it, I’m out, send out the rescue team now please!”

Even with the sore butts we are proud to say we did survive the entire trip, and it was one that we will remember for the rest of our lives. Why? Well we could ramble on here for ages, but instead of telling you, let us show you.
