Huge new ‘iPhone XL’ to launch this year (along with a cheap £450 model)

Apple is set to launch an absolutely massive new entry to its iPhone line-up – with a 6.5-inch OLED display, according to the latest leaks.

Prolific iPhone leaker Benjamin Geskin claims to have images of prototype devices of this year’s line-up – which includes three new iPhone devices.

The devices are expected to launch in September.

The devices are the iPhone 9 (a cheaper model which could cost as little as £450), plus the iPhone 11 and 11 Plus, which will have 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch screens.

Details of the devices were found in beta code for Apple’s iOS.

Rumour also suggests the new devices could offer USB-C ports – which would mean much faster charging, similar to that offered on the latest Android flagships.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with a long track record of accurate Apple predictions, said earlier this year that a new, bigger iPhone X would be priced from $900-$1,000 (£670-£744).

There’ll also be a cheaper LCD model, priced from $600 (£446), he believes.

Consumers in the UK may, of course, end up paying more – with Apple having a history of pricing products higher over here.

Kuo says, ‘We forecast that Apple will adopt a more aggressive price policy,’ saying that Apple can afford to do it due to lower assembly costs.

Reports earlier this year suggested that the iPhone X had failed to hit sales targets: a lack of interest in China was cited as the main reason – with consumers put off by the ‘notch’ in the screen.
