Huacuja maintains lead over Scheller as more ballots counted in county commission race

Anthony Huacuja has maintained his lead over Tessa Scheller in the District 2 race for the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners as more ballots were counted.

After an update Thursday, Huacuja led Scheller 50% to 49%, or 1,122 to 1,094, a slightly tighter split than late Tuesday night.

County Clerk Tracie Krevanko said the next update is scheduled for Wednesday by 5 p.m. That count will mostly be comprised of remaining mail-in ballots, challenged ballots and ballots received from drop boxes in other counties. Krevanko anticipates the number of ballots received to continue to decrease with each update.

Huacuja is a registered nurse. Scheller is a retired certified registered nurse anesthetist.

District 2 encompasses Gearhart, Clatsop Plains and portions of Seaside and Warrenton. The winner of the election will replace Commissioner John Toyooka, who chose not to seek reelection.
