HTC’s hot Nexus 9 tablet might launch sooner than you think

Google is expected to unveil two Nexus devices this year – at least according to some recent reports – including the HTC Nexus 9 tablet and the Motorola Nexus 6 smartphone. The Nexus 9 has been found listed in code as the “HTC T1″ according to some leaks and it may launch a lot sooner than people expect, @upleaks says.

“HTC T1 will be released before Oct. 9,” the Chinese leaker tweeted, without revealing any other details about it. The same source has, however, shared Nexus 9 specs and features in past leaks, revealing that the HTC tablet is also known as the HTC T1 internally.

Assuming the tablet will launch on October 9th at the latest this may mean Google is getting ready for a faster release of its new Android L platform. A leak from Android Police revealing specs for the tablet said the device will be available in the fall once Android L is ready to roll out.

In previous years, Google unveiled new Nexus devices alongside new major Android OS updates in late October – both in 2012 (the Nexus 4 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean) and in 2013 (the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat) – so seeing Android L out earlier than that would be a pleasant surprise.

Its main competitor is about to unveil and launch the iPhone 6 in September alongside iOS 8, and Apple is also expected to launch new iPads in the following months, maybe as soon as October.
