In his keynote address at the [Gluecon 2013](http://www.gluecon.com/2013/) developers’ conference in Broomfield, Colorado, [Blake Yeager](http://twitter.com/Blake_Yeager‎) laid out the importance of scale in the cloud. First, to understand scale, don’t ask about size. Just like an efficient parking lot isn’t defined by the lines, scale in the cloud isn’t defined by how long it takes to create an instance, how many API requests per second, or how many instances can you create.
