HP CEO admits company’s laptops feel like ‘bricks,’ vows to learn from Apple

Samsung (005930) isn’t the only company that’s trying to learn from Apple’s (AAPL) design prowess. The Wall Street Journal reports that HP (HPQ) CEO Meg Whitman now admits that her company’s laptops in the past have felt more like “bricks” and that the company in general hasn’t “kept up with the innovation” in terms of making its laptops thinner and more attractive. In response to this challenge, the Journal says that HP “has reorganized and nearly doubled the size of its PC design team to 60 people and has opened two new design centers.” Whitman also acknowledged that Apple “taught us that design really matters” and said that the company is taking a long-term approach to building its own stylish PCs to compete with Apple’s MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines.
