Houston weather today: Severe thunderstorms cause power outages, damage

HOUSTON - Following a round of severe storms with high winds and heavy rain, the outlook is quickly improving.

Look for a breezy day with only a slight chance for an afternoon shower or storm.

Storm damage

Early Wednesday morning, a severe thunderstorm watch was in effect for the Houston area and some severe thunderstorm warnings were issued. They have all since expired.

Trees were toppled by the strong winds across the Houston area. The Harris County Pct. 4 Constable's Office on the north side of the county reported more than a dozen locations with downed trees.

Near Katy, a building collapsed and another sustained significant damage.
