House ‘complete loss’ after massive fire in McHenry

MCHENRY, Ill. — A house was completely destroyed in an early morning fire Tuesday in unincorporated McHenry.

According to officals, the fire was reported to authorities by a passerby who observed the flames from the roadway.

The Nunda Rural Fire Protection District responded to the scene around 3:20 a.m. in the 2500 block of South Justen Road. Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed the heavy flames and quickly began defensive operations on the house, which had already began collapsing, according to officials.

The fire was declared under control around 4:40 a.m. The entire structure, along with its contents, are considered a complete loss, fire officials said.

The house was in the process being remodeled and was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District.
