House bill would give boost to contracted research industry

There is debate about whether law firms ads about drug side effects are scare tactics designed to unnerve consumers and encourage them to file lawsuits.

The booming contract research industry would get a financial gift under a bill recently introduced in Congress.

The measure, dubbed the Domestic Research Enhancement Act of 2017, would give companies a 35 percent tax credit for research expenses when they are conducting contract research. Tax credits for research and development do not currently extend to research done under such contracts.
