The evening focused on the organization’s 20 years of providing free legal services to nonprofits in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. NBC News senior investigative and legal correspondent Cynthia McFadden hosted the event, where the Partnership honored Jaimi Wintz McKeon, chair of Morgan Lewis, and the legal department of Merck & Co., Inc., in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, with the 2017 Champion Awards. Ashley Watson, senior vice president, chief ethics and compliance officer at Merck & Co., Inc., accepted the award on behalf of the Merck legal department. Merck is a longtime supporter of the Pro Bono Partnership mission. Merck attorneys embody the pro bono ethos, and the New Jersey legal team ranks among the most active Pro Bono Partnership volunteers, the organization said. The evening’s celebration also included special guest speaker Valerie Traoré, executive director at Food Bank of South Jersey, a Pro Bono Partnership client. Her story of how the Partnership and volunteer attorneys saved the Food Bank $10,000 from just one matter, resolved with a contract review, underscored the importance of pro bono work and its impact on communities.
