Chicago's landmark New York Life Building at 39 S. LaSalle St. will become the latest addition to the city's inventory of historic buildings turned into hotels. Located in the city's financial district, the 14 story office building has been scooped up by San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group, who will turn the building into a 281 room hotel. The old New York Life Building was built back in 1894, and will soon receive a $106 million renovation. Once completed in early 2016, the landmark building in the financial district will join Kimpton's portfolio of other historic-buildings-turned-hotels, which include the Hotel Burnham, Hotel Allegro, Hotel Monaco and Hotel Palomar. Other historic buildings in the Loop that are receiving hotel makeovers include the London Guarantee Building, the Chicago Athletic Association building and the Chicago Motor Club building.
