Hot Springs residents trying not to let rain dampen Memorial Day weekend plans

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – It’s Memorial Day weekend and families across the Natural State are ready to celebrate and hit the lake, but the weather may have changed some plans.

There has been a steady flow of people on Central Avenue, downtown and at local marinas where everyone has said they’re trying to not let it derail their plans.

“This one started a little bit slower,” Jefferson Talbot, co-owner of Hot Springs Marina said.

The weekend may have been off to a slow start, but the rain isn’t putting a damper on all Memorial Day weekend plans in the Spa City.

“We’re looking forward to the holiday, spending time with family and friends,” Hot Springs resident Lisa Autry said.

At the Hot Springs Marina, they’re almost booked up for the weekend. Rain or shine, Talbot said they’ll be open and are looking forward to the days ahead.

“Saturday, Sunday and especially Monday are supposed to be beautiful,” Talbot stated.

The city is still recovering from the EF-2 tornado that hit earlier this month, with some of the hardest hit areas around the lake.

“We’re towing in boats constantly as they get dug out under docks that were knocked down and knocked over,” Talbot said.

However, the community has come together for one another. Talbot says Memorial Day is the official kick off to Summer, and they’re excited to welcome people to Lake Hamilton.

“No damper on the plans yet,” Autry stated.
