Hot Springs celebrates 88th annual Arkansas Derby

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.- Good Magic’s Muth to take home the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Racing and Casino by 2 1/2 lengths.

A race that was on dirt 1 1/8 miles.

“I’m from Hot Springs, so I mean it is obviously a big event every year we have a good time out here,” Austin Roberts said.

People traveling from all over to join in on the Hot Springs tradition.

“We have family in Hot Springs, so we’ve gotten to know people who live here, we are from Austin, Texas and so we came in for the race absolutely a big event, biggest horse race event of the year,” Kevin Carriere said.

The doors opened at 10:30 am, with the first post time at noon.

The infield was open with a DJ, bouncy houses, a climbing rock wall, magicians, face painting, food trucks, and concessions.

The horse on their way to the Triple Crown and Kentucky Derby is Good Magic’s Muth with a time of 1:49.54.
