The ‘hot’ sign is off and the doors are locked at the two Krispy Kreme shops on MS Coast

The “hot” light is off and the line is gone at drive-thru windows at the two Mississippi Coast Krispy Kreme restaurants.

Signs posted at the Krispy Kreme on U.S. 90 in Ocean Springs say the franchise is closed temporarily for renovations. The Gulfport location on U.S. 49 also is closed.

The corporate office told the Sun Herald, “The two shops currently closed may reopen at a later date.”

“Meanwhile, we look forward to continuing to serve guests at our Hattiesburg shop,” the company said.

The famous Krispy Kreme glazed donuts are sold at some grocery and convenience stores in South Mississippi. But to get a lemon-filled or other specialty donut and coffee, customers need to go to one of the retail locations.

In addition to Hattiesburg, the closest locations are on Hillcrest Road in Mobile, Alabama, and on Clearview Parkway in Metairie, Louisiana.

People commenting on a private Ocean Springs Facebook page said the local Krispy Kreme shop was having problems getting staff to work.

What comes next is uncertain.

“Along with our franchisees, we are always evaluating our retail footprint in regard to consumer trends and market dynamics,” the company said.
