Hot, humid ahead of rain, storms Wednesday; Air Quality Alert in effect for some

Jul. 6—An Air Quality Alert remained in effect Tuesday for Butler and Warren counties, issued by the Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency, because the hot and muggy conditions were expected to elevate ozone concentrations.

As a precaution, the agency said active children and adults, as well as people with respiratory diseases like asthma, should avoid all outdoor exertion, while all others should limit exertion outside.

The agency also asked people in the affected counties to limit the use of gas vehicles, including by taking the bus or carpooling instead of driving, and avoiding using gas-powered lawn equipment before dusk. It also said to avoid refueling the vehicle before 8 p.m., and avoid topping off the tank when doing so.

Tuesday was mostly sunny, hot and humid, with the high temperature reaching 90 degrees in Cincinnati and Dayton. The heat index was close to 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Temperatures overnight will fall to around 72 degrees under mostly clear skies.

On Wednesday, clouds will increase throughout the day, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m.. Skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 90 degrees.

Rain and storm chances continue into the evening, which will be mostly cloudy with a low around 71 degrees.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected Thursday, which will have a high temperature near 87 degrees. Showers and storms fall off after sunset.

Thursday night will be partly cloudy with an overnight low around 65.

There is a slight chance of showers between noon and 2 p.m. Friday, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 84 degrees.
