It’s hot again today in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. But, it’ll be hotter in a few days

Expect Sunday to be hot again in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, the National Weather Service said, but not as hot as it was Saturday or as hot as it will be later this week.

“Heat Indices of 100 degrees and above are expected beginning Monday and lasting through all of next week,” the weather service’s hazardous weather statement warns. “Peak heat indices in excess of 105 degrees will be possible in primarily the Wednesday to Friday time frame.”

Sunday, the NWS predicts air temperature highs of 89 degrees at Miami International Airport, 93 at Homestead Air Reserve Base and 88 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. That last prediction had been reached by 10 a.m. Sunday.

This follows a Saturday during which MIA temperature peaked at 3:53 p.m., 93 degrees, and, an hour later, the heat index topped out at 99. At 3:53 p.m., Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood hit its highs for each, 97 and 105. Homestead peaked at 93.4 degrees and 97 heat index at 2:55 p.m.

The high temperatures at MIA and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood are forecast to reach 93 on Wednesday and 92 on Thursday. Highs are projected to be 95 and 94 on those days in Homestead.

Heat reminders

Don’t leave children, pets or electronics in a parked car.

Drink water steadily and eat fruits. If you bring along anything with dairy to eat or drink, make sure it’s in a cooler with ice packs or cold packs. Dairy and meats can go bad quickly, especially if the cooler is in the sun.

Wear lightweight, light-colored clothes if you’re going to be outside. Long-sleeved dri-fit shirts work best if you’re going to be working outside.
