Hospitals of Providence is the first El Paso hospital to earn Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Hospitals of Providence (THOP) Transmountain Campus is the first hospital in El Paso to earn the Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), recognizing its emergency department, according to a press release sent by THOP.

Emergency departments earning Level three GEDA distinction have demonstrated high standard of care to the elderly, improved staff and education, have geriatric-focused policies and protocols and improve quality of outcomes and development, according to THOP.

“This is a tremendous achievement for our team, but most importantly for the patients that we serve and in ensuring we are meeting and exceeding the needs of our senior population.” said Dr. Goldstein, emergency medicine specialist and ER medical director for the Transmountain Campus. “Our interdisciplinary team is committed to providing a comprehensive approach for caring for older adults.”

According to ACEP, older people present unique needs, and outcomes that are in need to specific specialized care. Equipment and protocols tailored to these unique needs helps deliver emergency treatment efficiently and effectively, said THOP.

“Congratulations to our entire team for their steadfast commitment to elevating and improving the level of care for our senior population.” said David Byrd, chief executive officer for the Transmountain Campus. “This recognition solidifies our teams ongoing commitment in providing the highest standards of care to every population we serve.”
