Hospira's former chief scientific officer returns
Hospira reappoints Sumant Ramachandra as senior VP and chief scientific officer
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- Drug and medical device maker Hospira Inc. said Tuesday that Dr. Sumant Ramachandra was coming back as senior vice president and chief scientific officer, just two months after he had left the company.
Ramachandra, 44, had left Hospira in March to be president of research and development at biopharmaceutical company Synta Pharmaceuticals Corp. According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Ramachandra left the Lexington, Mass., company earlier this month for personal reasons. A spokesman for Synta declined to comment beyond the filing.
Ramachandra's return to Hospira is effective Friday. He will resume responsibility for Hospira's global research and development, regulatory and medical affairs organization, the company said. Before leaving in March, Ramachandra had served as Hospira's senior vice president and chief scientific officer since 2008.
Hospira shares rose 14 cents to $34.37 in afternoon trading.
