Horseheads girls hoops roll past Ithaca, local scoreboard

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Horseheads and Hornell girls hoops pick up big wins on a busy Monday of high school basketball.

Horseheads girls basketball closed out their regular season with a big win over Ithaca. Sophia Bonnell led the Blue Raiders with 17 points in a rare neutral site game at Elmira High School. Elsewhere in the section, Payton Littlefield’s 15 points led Edison past Spencer-Van Etten. Additionally, Elmira Notre Dame fell to Athens, despite Mallory Sheehan providing 25 of the Crusaders’ 29 total points. Addy Wheeler spearheaded the Wildcats attack with 16 points. In Section V, top-ranked Hornell outlasted Class A’s 4th ranked Pal-Mac.

In boys basketball, Ryan Willett scored 21 points to help Watkins Glen past Spencer-Van Etten. Elsewhere in the Section IV, Elmira Notre Dame and Tioga each fell in close games. In Section V, 7th ranked Hornell bested Class C’s number 10, York. In the NTL, Hayes Campbell continues to roll with his 2nd straight double-double. Campbell’s 18 points and 10 rebounds, led Wellsboro past Benton.
