Horry County woman charged after baby dies due to ethanol, warrants show

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — An Horry County woman is facing charges after a baby died last May due to ethanol, according to a police report and arrest warrants obtained by News13.

Jaclyn Katie Brunette, 32, of Little River, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child and abuse inflicting great bodily injury, online booking records show. She was released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Wednesday on a $5,000 bond.

Police responded to Goldenrod Circle in Little River on May 28 for a death, the report said. When they arrived, they were told someone had woken up at about 6 a.m. and realized the baby was unresponsive in his crib and that CPR was attempted.

The baby was lying on his back and was not sick at the time, Brunette told police in the report. She said he didn’t have any concerning medical history, though she did say she had a “tough” pregnancy.

Arrest warrants obtained by News13 show the baby, who was about three months old, was solely breastfed and died from toxic effects of ethanol. His BAC level was 0.133.
