Horizon Behavioral Health celebrates 55 years of service in Central Virginia

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — For decades, Horizon Behavioral Health (HBH) has been serving patients across Central Virginia. Now, it is celebrating 55 years of service.

To celebrate the milestone, Horizon is hosting a community-wide training and reception on April 10. Starting at 10 a.m. at the Academy Center of the Arts, the event will feature renowned, guest speakers, Dr. Stephen Loyd, M.D., and Dr. Sara Bailey, Ph.D., followed by a reception.

HBH is the sole Community Services Board serving the Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell Counties, and the City of Lynchburg. As the premier provider of mental health, substance use, and intellectually disabled services in Central Virginia, Horizon’s mission is to promote the independence and self-worth of people and families.

LPD teams up with Horizon Behavioral Health to improve response to mental health calls

The organization provides continuous community-based treatment, prevention, early intervention, and aftercare services for those impacted by mental health, intellectual disabilities, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.

In 2023, HBH served more than 12,000 patients including almost 9,000 adults and 3,000 children.
