‘Honoring The Fallen’ specialty license plates have arrived

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — After losing her husband in the line of duty, Liz White-Dibb was inspired to begin her Honoring The Fallen specialty license plate project to honor officers who have died in the field.

News Channel 11 spoke with White-Dibb in 2022 when she introduced the project.

On Thursday, White-Dibb happily reported the license plates had arrived. She was the first to receive a plate honoring her late husband.

“There were times when I actually thought these plates weren’t going to happen,” White-Dibb said. “So it was a big, big aha moment. So it was pretty awesome.”

She said she is eager to see other license plates, too.

“It means a lot to me that Mark is never forgotten, but that no officers ever forgot. And so to me, that’s my hope. People see these plates, and it just kind of makes you think a little bit more that these officers are people, and they do have families who love them.”

News Channel 11 spoke with Katie Shaffer, deputy over inventory management for Sullivan County.

“I think it’s very important to be able to show our support for our local law enforcement officers and definitely their families and supporting the officers around us who we have tragically lost during their line of duty,” Shaffer said.

The plates cost $65 a year and that does include the cost of the plate and the registration fee, Shaffer told News Channel 11.

The license plates were made possible with the help of Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) and state lawmakers. The proceeds benefit the Middle and East Tennessee Chapter of COPS to assist families recovering from a loss.
