In honor of Ellen's birthday, Michelle Obama gave America a beautiful pep talk

In honor of Ellen DeGeneres' 60th birthday Michelle Obama stopped by to give her (and the rest of America) the greatest gift of all — a reassuring pep talk.

"I personally feel frightened. I feel like the world is a very scary place right now," Ellen admitted to her friend and former FLOTUS.

"People are afraid but then there are people who feel good about the direction of the country, so that's what makes this country complicated," Michelle said.

"We are this mosh pit of society," she went on. "But the thing we have to remember, and the thing I learned in the eight years that I was in the White House, is that what we do every day in our lives, the good things that we do — we show empathy, we care for each other, we do have a lot in common — that's what it means to lead with hope and not fear."

"That's all we have is hope," she said. "Forget what they're saying in Washington. That's not necessarily who we are, we know who we are."

In another clip Michelle is seen giving Ellen a CVS basket full of goodies, including another brilliant gift — a Barack Obama Chia Pet.

Can you say birthday goals?
