Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) sold 11,407 units last month showing a 37.93 per cent drop in total sales. They had sold 18,380 units in June 2015.

The manufacturer exported 393 units last month showing no stellar performance there as well. The cumulative sales also accounted for 31,847 units in the period April to June 2016 as compared to the 44,447 units sold in the same period last year.

Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, HCIL, said, “The shift in consumer preferences led to high stock of diesel vehicles at our dealerships. As a deliberate measure, we have been rationalising wholesale dispatches to correct the stock situation at our dealerships. The market is good and our retail sales were much higher than wholesales. The stock levels at our dealerships have been almost normalised and we expect that our wholesales would match the retail sales level in July.”

The Honda City continues to be the best-seller for the carmaker with 3,581 units sold last month. The latest BR-V follows closely at 3,064 units with the Jazz at 2,593 units. The facelifted Amaze managed to garner 1,617 units for the manufacturer, while the Brio, Mobilio and CR-V are down to 359, 140 and 53 units respectively.

Despite the launch of the new BR-V, HCIL couldn’t keep up the sales momentum like what they achieved earlier with the City and Amaze. The demand of the sedans had helped the company achieve high sales figures. Even if the fiscal 2015-2016 has not been substantially fruitful for the carmaker, let’s hope Honda pulls up their socks to garner a better market share in the Indian market.
