Honda India has just launched the new BR-V in India. The compact SUV has been launched with ex-showroom prices ranging between Rs 8.75 lakh lakh and Rs 12.90 lakh, depending on the variant (ex-showroom Delhi). The BR-V is a Mobilio-based seven-seater model that combines the utility of an SUV with the practical interiors of an MPV.

Although it’s loosely based on the Mobilio, the BR-V features a longer wheelbase, wider front and rear track. It also sits higher off the ground compared to the Mobilio. Honda has added chunky roof rails, plastic cladding all around and used different alloy wheel designs for that rugged appearance.

The BR-V gets two engine options and four variants to choose from. The entry-level E gets projector headlights, roof rails, tilt steering, power windows and even dual airbags and ABS (for diesel variant) as standard. The top-spec VX variant, meanwhile, is fully loaded with standard features including leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, electrically foldable wing mirrors, push-button start, multi-information display, climate control, rear AC vents and a 2-Din infotainment system.

Engine options for the BR-V are shared with the Mobilio. Both the petrol and diesel units are 1.5-litre four-cylinder engines developing 118bhp/145Nm and 100bhp/200Nm respectively. Although a 6-speed manual is standard on both drivelines, buyers opting for the petrol-powered BR-V can also have the convenience of a CVT.
The compact SUV segment in India is already a crowded affair and things are only about to intensify all the more now that the BR-V is here. The latter competes with similarly built models like the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster.
