Homes evacuated due to gas leak in northern Palm Springs; no injuries reported

Several homes in northern Palm Springs were evacuated Friday afternoon due to a gas leak, though there were no injuries to residents or first responders.

Two fire engines arrived to the scene after a gas leak at a home in the 2000 block of Joyce Drive was reported around 3:10 p.m. Friday.

The leak occurred when construction workers cut a gas line, and adjacent homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to Palm Springs Fire Department spokesperson Nathan Gunkel.

Firefighters were waiting for a gas company to arrive and shut off the line as of 4:45 p.m. Friday.

This is a developing story.
