This Homemade Hoverbike Bucks Like a Flying Bronco

From Popular Mechanics

Hoverbikes are an enticing idea. After all, who wouldn't jump at the chance to ride a Star Wars speeder bike but in real life? The Army is so enamored with the idea that its trying to develop its own, but in the meantime consummate tinkerer Colin Furze has built one by himself. It looks incredible to ride, but maybe not to actually get around on.

Builder of apocalypse bunkers and jet-powered go karts, Furze is no stranger to extreme DIY engineering, but this is his first project to ever actually leave the ground. It certainly does that, but it's a little hard to wrangle while it's up there.

The entire construction process was documented in a series of four videos, but this last one is the culmination. While the hoverbike looks like it could definitely benefit from added stability features (and additional horsepower to help lift the heavier frame into the air), it does look like this beast is possible to tame with a little practice, even if it seems unlike you could ever get it to do exactly what you want. That that, we'll just have to wait and see what the military can come up with.
