Home Sweet Home: Meet Lilly Bug

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — This week, FOX21 Morning News and the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) are featuring Lilly Bug, a two-year-old Labrador Retriever mix that came into HSPPR as a stray.

HSPPR said Lilly Bug can be shy when meeting new people and might need some time to adjust to her new home, but she was full of energy and very friendly during her visit to the FOX21 News studio. Lilly Bug has been working with HSPPR volunteers and HSPPR’s Behavior Team to help grow her confidence. HSPPR said she has been playful with other dogs but slow introductions are recommended.

Lilly Bug’s adoption fee is $150, which includes a voucher for a veterinarian exam, 30 days of pet health insurance, a microchip, and she will be spayed.

The estimated value of an adoption package at HSPPR is over $400.

This week is National Poison Prevention Week. Responsible pet owners should always take steps to ensure their pets are safe from poisons that can be found around the home including cleaning agents, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, chocolate, gasoline, oil and antifreeze.

According to HSPPR, as little as one teaspoon of antifreeze can be deadly to a cat and less than one tablespoon can be lethal to a 20-pound dog.

If a pet does ingest something poisonous, HSPPR said the best plan of action is to call a veterinarian immediately. Depending on the toxin, it can take up to 20 minutes or more for a reaction. Visit hsppr.org for more information.
