Homemade Mother Nature's Costumes

Looking for a festive weekend craft to do with the kiddos?  Playing dress up with this cape and crown will get everyone in the mood for all things Halloween. Better yet, you may just have a costume conundrum solved. That’s one down!

MATERIALS:

  • Hot glue gun

  • Glue sticks

  • Leaves and baby pinecones

  • Burlap

  • Twine

  • Wired Ribbon/Wired paper

  • Scissor

  • Long branch

  • Pumpkin

  • Pumpkin carving tool

Instructions:

Burlap cape:

  1. Fold the burlap on one end.  This will be your collar and where you glue the leaves and pinecones.

  2. With the scissor, poke two holes in both outer corners of the fold.

  3. Cut long pieces of your twine and thread it through the holes. Knot it a few times on the other side to secure.

  4. Decorate the collar with leaves and pine cones. Glue them down.

Crown:

  1. Measure around your head with the wired paper or ribbon.  Add several inches before trimming to make sure you have enough excess to twist in the back.

  2. Arrange leaves to design and glue to the ribbon.

Pumpkin Staff:

  1. Use your carving tool to make a hole on the bottom of the pumpkin and stick the staff in.
