GREEN BAY - Join the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Appleton Post-Crescent, Wisconsin Public Radio and the other NEW (Northeastern Wisconsin) News Lab partners for a storytelling event Sept. 20 at the Brown County Central Library.

The NEW News Lab produced "Home is Here: Stories Behind the Census" series last year. The project went beyond census data to tell the stories of the growing number of Black, Asian, Native American and Hispanic residents in the region.

Five of the participants in the stories wrote personal essays about life in northeastern Wisconsin. Maureen McCollum of Wisconsin Public Radio captured their stories for her “Wisconsin Life” series.

The Home is Here event at the library will feature some of these participants telling their stories about living here. Join us from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 20 in the library's auditorium in the lower level. The event is free but we ask guests to register on Eventbrite because space is limited.

A reception with light refreshments will precede the event at 5:30 p.m.

Meet the NEW News Lab partners

The NEW News Lab is a local news collaboration in northeastern Wisconsin made up of six news organizations: the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Appleton Post-Crescent, FoxValley365, The Press Times, Wisconsin Public Radio and Wisconsin Watch. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Journalism Department is an educational partner. Microsoft is providing financial support to the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region to fund the initiative. The mission of the lab is to “collaborate to identify and fill information gaps to help residents explore ways to improve their communities and lives — and strengthen democracy.”

The Home is Here series was published in 2022. This year we are working on the fourth series, "Families Matter," covering issues important to families in the region.
