Holt High School basketball coach charged with felonies

UPDATE: From Lansing Police Assistant Chief Robert Backus has issued the following statement with more information about El-Amin’s arrest and charges:

“On May 2, 2024, at approximately 8:20 pm, members of the Lansing Police Department Special Operations Section, Eaton County Sheriff Office and the Michigan State Police, arrested Muhammad El-Amin, a 36-year-old male, during a child predator operation.”

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Holt High School’s Boys Basketball Coach has been charged with four felonies related to child sexually abusive material and computers.

Muhammad El-Amin was charged in Lansing’s 54-A District Court Thursday with one count of Child Sexually Abusive Material, one count of using a computer and the internet to communicate with another to commit a crime. one count of using a computer to commit a crime and one count of accosting a child for immoral purposes. Each is a felony crime.

The two computer charges come under different Michigan laws. The first is using a computer to commit a crime. The other is using a computer to communicate with another person to commit a crime. The case was investigated by the Lansing Police Department, 54-A District Court records reveal. A warrant was authorized by the court Thursday, and El-Amin sought a court appointed attorney on Friday.

He’ll be court in court again May 17 for a probable cause hearing and May 24 for a preliminary hearing.

Holt Public Schools sent a letter to the school community Friday announcing El-Amin had been placed on administrative leave.
