In September 2021, a woman told investigators that she caught Burgett holding his cellphone camera up to a window in her residence hall room while she changed her clothes. Investigators said when they checked his phone, they found more than 200 images of child pornography. They say when they asked him about it, he admitted to producing some of it. Burgett was soon indicted on federal charges.

A plea agreement signed last week says Burgett admitted to sexually abusing a young girl and taking photos of it in August 2021.

Federal prosecutors agreed to dismiss the other charges against Burgett, including possession of child porn, in exchange for the guilty plea.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 29. Burgett faces between 15 and 30 years in prison, between five years and life on supervised release, fees and fines up to $50,000 and restitution. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
